Rabbit on the Move
Fort Lauderdales 18 Rabbit Gallery is about to take a little break. And when it reopens, it will be at a new location. But before they say goodbye to their space at 16 NW First Ave., gallery cofounders Leah Brown and Peter Symons have an exhibit to show. In These Woods, Brown blurs the distinction between conscious memory and dream states, creating surreal, Lewis Carrollesque characters like the mixed-media sculpture Caterbaby, a human baby/caterpillar hybrid. Whereas Brown deals with earthly images, Symons This Sky series takes it to the stars, exploring the relationship between the terrestrial and celestial (or earth and sky, but you knew that). Oh, and just a quick note for parents: Some of the work depicts the human body (for shame!), so if you have a problem with that, leave the little ones home.
The exhibit runs through June 24, hours are 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and admission is free. Call 828-279-1481, or visit 18rabbitgallery.com.
Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: May 23. Continues through June 24, 2010
