Relive the Beat Generation
Paying homage to Jack Kerouac, leader of the Beat Generation, the Florida Arts Association and BankUnited are celebrating National Poetry Month through the third-annual KeroWACKED multimedia festival. Covering the talents of writers, poets, musicians, and artists who wish to reenact this cultural phenomenon, attendees will have a chance to witness Boynton Beach's distinct counterculture. Special features include readings by Stacy Conde, author of The Red Speck; and Cheryl Maeder at the ActivistArtistA Gallery, along with artist exhibits by Dana Donaty, Gary Antonio, Rolando Chang Barrerro, and Gullermo Manrique, among others. To keep the event vibrant throughout the day, live performances will take place on two stages to feature the Future Prezidents, JC Dwyer of the Mobile Homies, Craig McInnis of Speaking Volumes, Dan York, and Sunny DeVilles. The Circle of Love Poets and Writers will also create a special presentation followed by a performance from the Vanya e'Dan Dance Company, the Philosofires (Fire Show), and Flow arts movement and dance by FlowSource. To top it off, the event will conclude against the sounds of percussion and drum circles from 8 to 11 p.m. Specialty vendors include Project Maté and the Secret Garden Café, which will feature vegetarian, vegan and nonvegan selections. Spend the day celebrating this unique time in history on Sunday from noon to 10 p.m. at the Boynton Beach Art District, located at 422 W. Industrial Ave. in Boynton Beach. Suggested donation is $10 per person. Call 786-521-1199, or email ActivistArtistA@Gmail.com. Visit ActivistArtistA's Facebook page.
