Ask She Wants Revenge singer/guitarist Justin Warfield what type of music his band churns out and he’ll respond simply, “Dance music.” Sure, it’s an all-encompassing term, but when your music incorporates as many elements as She Wants Revenge, it’s best to keep any definition as vague as possible. A simple listen will make it clear that members of SWR have studied up on Sisters of Mercy and wear Joy Division on their sleeves. But there’s nothing wrong with this so long as they’re not aping the greats. And despite a few cranky critics’ commentaries to the contrary, SWR are not apes. They are, however, scouring the bins and then coming up with a sound that’s as informed by yesterday as it is torn by the long, dark night of tomorrow’s soul. She Wants Revenge plays Wednesday at Revolution (200 W. Broward Blvd., Fort Lauderdale). Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and tickets cost $16. Visit ticketmaster.com.
