Rockabilly Beach, the musical
As we head into the season Floridians live here for, it's time to leave the air-conditioned confines of our homes and enjoy the lower humidity at our beaches. The still newly renovated Broadwalk offers a free, family-friendly Broadwalk Friday Fest concert under the stars. Joel DeSilva and the Midnight Howl sing Chicago-style blues above the sand at the Beach Theatre. The band gives a physical, vintage rockabilly show with smooth sounds and wailing guitars. If nothing else, come for the pompadour and metallic jacket. Hollywood's Broadwalk was named one of America's Best Beach Boardwalks by Travel + Leisure Magazine. It offers a thoroughfare between sand and establishment. Make a night of it and grab a bite to eat at one of the waterfront dining spots, or savor the last few nights of summer with an ice cream cone or smoothie. Hollywood's trolley service runs from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and offers an air-conditioned way to park and hit the beach. Broadwalk Friday Fest is Friday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. The Beach Theatre is located at 200 Johnson St. in Hollywood. The concert is free and weather-permitting. Call 954-921-3404.
