Almost one year to the day after his father, 53-year-old James McBane, passed away from liver failure due to complications of pancreatic cancer, 16-year-old dynamo Casey McBane has organized a tribute show and charity event in his father’s honor titled Stand for Your Glands. Taking place Friday, the event features seven stellar local and regional acts, with all proceeds being donated to the Lustgarten Pancreatic Foundation. McBane says he is proud that all the money from his event is going directly to pancreatic cancer research, because he doesn’t want anyone to have to go through the difficult time his family experienced this past year. In the months after his father’s passing, McBane took solace in going out to all-ages shows, particularly ones held at Anonymous Guitars. It is at this custom guitar shop and music venue where McBane became a regular, started booking shows, and met all seven bands on this evening’s bill: Kill the Poets, Frost Flowers, Indian Giver, 11:59, This Thieving Hand, Gillian Carter, and Fero Lux.
Stand for Your Glands takes place Friday at 6 p.m. at Anonymous Guitars, located at 10778 NW 53rd St. in Sunrise. Tickets cost $10. Call 954-592-1321, or visit anonymousguitars.com.
