Seasons aren't just about weather. Around here, we've got snowbird season and festival season. We've even got 5K season, which, luckily for our waistlines, happens to coincide with the holiday season. There has been at least one 5K every weekend for the past two months, and Thanksgiving week will be no different. In fact, the second-annual Turkey Trot and Paddle will let you walk, run, or paddle off that stuffing and pumpkin pie before you even put it in your mouth. The race will be held along Fort Lauderdale beach. Walkers and runners will enjoy the sights along A1A, and those who choose to paddle will do so in the Atlantic Ocean along the beach. While no one is saying you have to dress up like a turkey or a pilgrim, no one is going to stop you either. (Translation: Please, oh, please, dress up like a turkey.) The race begins at 7:30 a.m. Registration is $20 to $35. You can register the day of the event between 6 and 7:15 a.m. at check-in, but you are not guaranteed a timing chip or a shirt. Check in at least 30 minutes before race time at 501 Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd., just south of Las Olas Boulevard, on the corner of A1A and SE Fifth Street. Visit turkeytrotftl.com.
