Say Hello to His Little Friend, on the Big Screen
In an apparent attempt to show South Floridians the biggest line of coke they've ever seen -- an ambitious move, for sure -- at least 17 local theaters will join nearly 500 other theaters nationwide for a special screening of Scarface, which will include the debut of a 20-minute featurette about the film. Of all the possible locations around the country to take the ride with Tony Montana (played by Al Pacino) as he hustles his way from poor-Cuban-immigrant status to out-of-his-mind drug lord, SoFla is definitely the best spot, simply because the film is set right here -- in 1980s Miami, to be specific. As you watch Montana succeed in his pursuit of power and riches, you may become tempted to seek out that kind of pleasure for yourself. As Montana blows lines of Colombian dust and laughs in his mansion, you may turn to snorting the Pixy Stix you bought from the concession stand. Here's a word of warning on that (spoiler alert): It doesn't end up working out so well for him, and it probably won't for you either. When Montana buries his face in a mountain of "yayo," that is a sign of bad things to come. Same goes for you and the Pixy Stix. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Call 954-777-3456 or visit fathomevents.com for participating theaters -- or head to Regal Cinemas Cypress Creek Station 16 (6415 N. Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale; 954-771-0033).
