If you consider the late-sixties psych/sapsters The Turtles as being: That band that sang Happy Together, you need to revisit them. Their arsenal of hit singles runs the gambit of poppy ditties, like Shed Rather be With Me and You Baby (Aint Nobody but You), to the swingin serenade Elenore. After the group dissolved, Flo and Eddie kept right on rockin, first with Zappa and the gang, then on the air as radio personalities. Theyve remained staples of the industry, singing back up for the Ramones, T-Rex, Psychedelic Furs, and Steely Dan and theyre still touring and charming every crowd in their path.
Granted, their onstage banter is now focused less on psychedelics and more on getting to bed early and denture care, but their delivery is endearing to the point of giggle-worthy. Pile on the tie-dye, douse yourself with patchouli, and catch Flo and Eddie tonight at HippieFest. They will be playing with Eric Burdon and the Animals, Jack Bruce of Cream, Badfinger, and more this evening at Pompano Amphitheater (1806 NE Sixth St., Pompano Beach). Reserved seats range $50 to $65. Get em at www.livenation.com.
