Shining a Light on the Sunshine State’s Best
The week marks the 62nd-annual edition of the Boca Museum of Art’s illustrious All Florida Juried Competition and Exhibition. The oldest statewide annual juried competition, this exhibition displays artwork from the upper echelon of Florida’s independent art world. Featuring 149 works by Florida’s top emerging artists, the All Florida Juried Competition is composed of a cross section of media, including paintings, graphics, drawings, sculptures, installations, photographs, computer-generated images, and video. It affords art aficionados the opportunity to witness the best talent the Sunshine State has to offer, all in one gallery. As juror, Mark Scala, chief curator at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts in Nashville, Tennessee, has the unenviable task of selecting just one of these exemplary works as best in show. A $1,500 award goes to that heralded work; five other pieces will receive merit awards of $500 each. The All Florida Juried Competition and Exhibition entries can be seen at the museum’s central galleries from this Wednesday through July 14. This prestigious art event opens Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Boca Museum of Art, located at 501 Plaza Real in Boca Raton. Call 561-392-0500, or visit bocamuseum.org.
