Some Like It Outdoors
The City of Miami Beach SoundScape Cinema Series’ showing of Some Like It Hot won’t be the first time we see drag queens cavorting outside a Miami Beach building at night, but it might be the classiest. As part of the Arts in the Parks Program, the film will be cast on the drive-in-theater-size wall at the New World Center this Wednesday at 8 p.m. Attendees of the free screening are encouraged to bring blankets and picnic dinners so they can enjoy Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon’s adorable transvestite antics in the utmost comfort. In this progressive and hysterical 1959 film, small-time jazz musicians Joe (Curtis) and Jerry (Lemmon) don girly disguises so they can go on the road with an all-female band and escape the repercussions of having witnessed a mob hit in Chicago. But with bombshell Sugar Kane Kowalczyk (played by the irresistible Marilyn Monroe) along for the ride, as well as a train full of other gorgeous gals who adore an affectionate all-girl pajama party, the dangerously heterosexual duo is destined to run into trouble.
