With the advent of Netflix and Hulu, movie date nights have become obsolete. No longer can hormonal teens sit in a dark theater and anxiously await the right moment to instigate a romantic handhold.
Well, after a five-month hiatus, Cinema Paradiso returns with the quintessential 1980s blood-and-guts double feature sure to get any guy or gal to leap into your arms, Splatter-Rama. Expect some cheesy prom dresses, vomiting slugs, and futuristic flamethrowers in the first film, Night of the Creeps, when alien parasites take over human brains, turning them into zombies. During intermission, be sure to check the vintage horror trailers and visit any of the three bars for the usual concession candy and popcorn. Or to make the second film, Night of the Demons from 1988, that much more interesting, opt for an alcoholic drink of your choice. Don't let ugly demons, limb amputation, and body contortion get the best of you, because when the lights come on at the end, you get to go home; the ten teenagers in the film, however, don't have such luck.
The doors open at 7 p.m. Saturday at Cinema Paradiso, located at 503 SE Sixth St. in Fort Lauderdale. Admission is $10. Call 954-525-3456, or visit fliff.com.
