The Art and Culture Center of Hollywood is running a magical sort of raffle, one in which everybody wins. Abracadabra: The Fourth Annual Fund-raising Art Exhibition and Raffle requires only that you buy a $345 raffle ticket to go home with one of 100 pieces of art donated by invited artists and valued at more than the ticket price. Youre practically stealing.
The raffle takes place February 18, but in the meantime, the 100 works of art will be on display at the Art and Culture Center (1650 Harrison St., Hollywood). The artists are attending Abracadabra s opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, which coincides with the unveiling of two separate exhibitions: Christiaan Lopez-Miro: All Roads Lead to Cassaga, a photographic portrait of a 115-year-old spiritualist retreat in Central Florida (a region whose swamps have been littered with strange utopian experiments); and Lea Nickless: Water & Oil, with portraits of plankton on tar paper, plus oil pigment floated on water to re-create the eerily beautiful brown swirls seen in satellite photos of the BP-fouled Gulf. Reception tickets cost $10. Call 954-921-3274, or visit artandculturecenter.org.
