Superhill Gang

In a time when few of our political leaders are worth of hero worship, superheroes continue to thrive. For decades, they have been the subject of the biggest blockbuster movies, the toy of choice for millions of youngsters, and the main characters of some very important (comic) books. Though many have stepped in to play Superman in recent years, it was Christopher Reeve who owned the role, which is what made his paralysis so devastating to so many. Losing his ability to fly (Superman is real, goddamn it), Reeves took to building his legacy differently with the launch of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation in 1982. The mission of this important nonprofit is simple: fund research on spinal cord industries and hopefully eradicate them forever. The way it works toward this goal is what brings the foundation to South Florida this Saturday. The Light at the End of the Tunnel benefit will not only raise money for an important cause but it will raise the roof. Often considered the first rappers, Sugarhill Gang will perform to prove that they've still got it. Flowing drinks and food and a raffle round out this event sure to result in good times and important research. The Light at the End of the Tunnel is from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Passion Nightclub inside the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino at 1 Seminole Way in Hollywood. Tickets cost $150 per person or $250 per couple. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit
