For the past ten years, the Ghost Light Series has brought together a clutch of literary folks, including county library employee Kevin Johnson, for a handful of performances where everyone reads a selected play at full length. With two earlier performances this month (one a reading of a Donald Margulies play, the other a Tennessee Williams treatment), Ghost Light Series returns tonight but with a slightly different take — instead of reciting the classics, tonight’s series will profile four local playwrights’ works.
Johnson says the plays vary in theme and include everything from a look at a psychiatrist’s last day on the job in Todd Caster’s Sweet Talk to Hot Pursuit by Palm Beach playwright Cynthia MacGregor, about a widower who visits his sister in Miami only to be pounced upon by every available neighbor.
In addition to the plays that run about 15 to 30 minutes in length, there will be local musicians and poets who will perform in the round.
Plays begin at 8 p.m. at the Empire Stage, located at 1140 N. Flagler Drive in Fort Lauderdale. Admission is free, but donations are welcomed. Call 954-678-1496, or visit conundrumstages.net.
