The Ancestors Lantern
Youve spent the past year relentlessly researching your genealogy its cool to add a new member to the ol family tree. And youve confirmed youre not royalty that part not as cool. But you follow the belief, similar to Japanese culture, that every ancestor deserves our profound respect. So check out the annual Bon Festival, a traditional three-day Japanese holiday honoring our ancestors for all we have in this life. The festival will feature taiko drums, folk dancing, a street fair, games, vendor booths, and some awesome food. Plus, fireworks! The Toro Nagashi, or lantern floating ceremony, during which attendees decorate paper lanterns, light their candles, and set them afloat on the beautiful koi pond to honor ancestors, will close the night. Tickets cost $10 and less. The event lasts from 5 to 9 p.m at Morikami Museum & Gardens (4000 Morikami Park Rd., Delray Beach). Call 561-495-023, visit morikami.org/bon.
