The Irish Renaissance
When you think Renaissance, images of mainland Europe come to mind: the great painters and artists of Italy, France, the Netherlands. When you think Renaissance Festival, scenes from Old England probably carve their way into your consciousness -- jousting knights, kings and queens, wenches... you know, the usual stuff. Well, just like everyone else, the Florida Renaissance Festival is going Irish with its "We're Going Green" theme for St. Patrick's Day.
In addition to the usual Ren-Fest merriment, this weekend will highlight Irish food, culture, music, and the most infamous Irish pastime -- drinking. Performances include Drake Irish Dancers and musical group Celtic Mayhem. The theme kicks off Saturday and lasts through the weekend. The festival takes place all weekend, 10 a.m. through sunset. Tickets cost $20 per adult, $7 for children 6 to 11, and is free for children 5 and under. The festival is being held at Quiet Waters Park, 401 S. Powerline Road in Deerfield Beach.
