Recently, Bust writer Priya Jain walked in on Kathy Griffin with her face in a mountain of blow. Raising her head, Griffin entered a cocaine-induced rage, slapping all those around her, including her makeup artist, Naomi Campbell-style. Or so the 48-year-old D-list comedian wants you to believe. “I never scare anybody,” Griffin told Jain, explaining why she would love reporters to start rumors about her. “I always wanted to be that person in the room that people were scared of.”

Griffin may not be notorious for a bad temper, drug abuse, or abusing her staff, but there are some — read celebrities — who are certainly terrified of her comedic wrath. Delivering hilarious impersonations of public figures she’s encountered, Griffin blends self-deprecation and take-no-prisoners celebrity-bashing in her standup, which is as unabashedly controversial as her Emmy speech gem: “Suck it, Jesus. This award is my God now!”
