The King Is Back
If imitation is the best form of flattery, then Elvis Presley might be the most flattered human being of all time. The man who brought rock 'n' roll to the mainstream (and Forrest Gump) has been living on through Elvis impersonators ever since his untimely death. We will never be without the King's hip-shaking ways due to the throngs of dedicated fans who put on shows in his honor. And while an Elvis impersonator might just be a funny guy with sideburns dressed in a cheap white suit, there are those who take it more seriously and honor Elvis the way he should be. Chris MacDonald isn't simply an Elvis impersonator; he is a true entertainer paying tribute to the pioneering performer. His show is as close to seeing the real Elvis in concert as you can get, and he is the only tribute artist hired by Elvis Presley Enterprises to perform at Graceland's Heartbreak Hotel. With an eight-piece band and a passion for Elvis, MacDonald has his show down pat and has been selling out during his summer tour. Showtime is 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets cost $51.47. The Broward Center for the Performing Arts is located at 201 SW Fifth Ave. in Fort Lauderdale. Call 877-311-7469, or visit browardcenter.org.
