The Modern World Sucks
The downer French philosopher E.M Cioran once remarked that Western civilization has become a mass of listless people, wedged between lonely billionaires and the homeless. Thats something to keep in mind during Sex Drugs Rock & Roll by Eric Bogosian, a new production at Fort Lauderdales Sol Theatre that has nothing nice to say about the modern world.
Sex Drugs Rock & Roll is a succession of ten monologues. Theres a drugged-up panhandler in a subway car, a washed-up rock star on a talk show, a phony self-made man showing off his swimming pool one by one, examples of human flotsam wash up on the stage and soliloquize. A survivor of the ΄60s generation rants perhaps rightly that the United States is ruled by malevolent televisions, computers, and supermarket checkout stations.
The Sol Theatre Project is a zany hole-in-the-wall with cozy couches for chairs, located at 1140 N. Flagler Dr. in Fort Lauderdale. Sex Drugs Rock & Roll runs Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. through March 7. Tickets costs $20, or $30 at the door. Call 954-801-9207, or visit soltheatre.com
Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m. Starts: Feb. 13. Continues through March 7, 2009
