The Parable of Demons

The Bible isn’t the only place to go to read about Christian morals. Sure, the Bible has parting seas and Jesus, but author C.S. Lewis has brought Christian philosophy to a whole fantasy series, The Chronicles of Narnia, which includes the popular childhood staple The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. But his more critically acclaimed novel, The Screwtape Letters, does what the Bible could not – the story is told from a demon's viewpoint. This novel, written in epistolary style, has been adapted to stage, and the plot goes as such: There is an office in Hell. Screwtape, a senior and charming demon, works there, advising his nephew Wormwood on how to secure the damnation of a Brit, only known as the Patient. This world is morally backwards -- greed and selfishness is good, so nether demon comprehends good virtue whenever they witness it. The play shows today at 4 p.m. and again at 8 p.m. and tomorrow at 3 p.m. at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts (8100 Royal Palm Blvd., Coral Springs). Tickets cost $29 to $49.
