The Son Shines
We all know about sneaky parents and their crafty little reward systems. When you were a kid, your folks probably said, "Do your chores and then you can have a piece of candy" or "Stay quiet and we'll let you out of the closet for five minutes." Little Ronnie Baker Brooks, whose dad is blues legend Lonnie Brooks, was told, "Learn two songs on guitar and I'll let you join me on-stage." Unlike most children, Ronnie obeyed his old man and ended up working the lead guitar in Dad's band for 12 years before branching out on his own. Nowadays, Ronnie sings, plays, and runs the entire guitar-smokin', blues-crunchin', soul-spankin' show. If you finish all your homework and get your butt down to the Sushi Blues Café and Blue Monk Lounge (2009 Harrison St., Hollywood) by 9 p.m., you can catch him. There's a $10 cover. Porn to Be Wild
How hilarious is gay porn? According to Ronnie Larsen, making porn is funny business. Larsen, director of plays such as A Few Gay Men, My Boyfriend the Stripper, and All-Male Peep Show, is bringing another gratuitous money shot to South Florida. Making Porn follows the lives of six people in the gay porn industry as they experience the ins and outs of the biz. But the story revolves around straight actor turned porn star Jack Hawk (played by real-life porn star Matthew Rush, who recently won a Gay Video News award for Best Newcomer -- a title that could be interpreted a few different ways) as he is hired by gay porn director Arthur Mack to star in his latest film, Cops. That's right, baby. You're getting 10-20. Catch Making Porn through February 29 at Cinema Paradiso, 503 SE Sixth St., Fort Lauderdale. Shows run Wednesday through Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 7 p.m. Call 800-965-4827 for tickets. -- Audra Schroeder
