The Thinks You Can Think
Often, valuable life lessons are both simple and complex. Take, for example, the genius of Dr. Seuss and his quirky cast of characters, teaching kids for decades invaluable truths: how the underdog often wins or, as The Cat in the Hat famously said, "And if worse comes to worse, as we all know it will, thank your lucky stars you've gotten this far." Heed that cat; he knows best. But don't take our word for it; find out at this Saturday's performance of Seussical. This musical, written by Lynne Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, culls bits and pieces from Dr. Seuss' children's books for a whirlwind romp through zany songs and quirky ideas. And it features the Cat in the Hat as the host and emcee with the most.
Seussical debuted on Broadway in 2000 and since has titillated audiences of all ages with vivid set designs and silly dialogue featuring the drama among Horton the Elephant, Who Jojo, Miss Gertrude McFuzz, and Maysie La Bird.
Young at Art Museum will be on-site with accompanying art activities for the little ones before the show, so get there a bit early to join in on the fun. Showtimes are 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, 201 SW Fifth Ave., Fort Lauderdale. Call 954-522-5334, or visit browardcenter.org. Tickets cost $15.
