This Festival Has Wings
The Lauderdale Air Show? Yeah; it’s a bit old school. The kind of thing your grandfather might drag you to, just so he can (for the 500th time) regale you with tales of his fighter pilot days. But don’t be surprised if you let out an enthusiastic Holy shit! about the first time an Air Hog stunt plane whizzes by overhead. No one ever truly outgrows the fascination with flying and whirling objects, and that’s what this beachside festival is all about. Scheduled to appear this year are the aforementioned Air Hogs, plus the Spanish Air Force parachuting team, a P-51 Mustang demo, the GEICO Skytypers, the Lucas Oil parachute team, and the Red Bull helicopter (because, of course Red Bull has a helicopter). The Goodyear Blimp also will be hanging out, but for most South Floridians, that’s a been-there, seen-it proposition. The Lauderdale Air Show is 1 p.m. on Sunday with the show center located at Sunrise Boulevard and AIA. Arrive early to secure a spot. The Air Show Afterburner Party is 7 p.m. at Shooters Waterfront Café (3033 NE 32nd Ave. in Fort Lauderdale). Tickets to prime viewing areas range from $32 to $239.
