Trolling the Waters
What better way to celebrate the birth of the American Republic than with transvestites on a yacht? This afternoon, the Musette sets sail for the Intracoastal in pursuit of happiness and partying. Gay men will throng its three decks under the blasting music of a DJ and the hot, aphrodisiac summer sun. There will be hors doeuvres and undulating oiled bodies, not to mention vocals from such eminent local trannies as Nikki Adams and Deja. But no tea.
The annual Fort Lauderdale Gay Tea Cruise traces its origins back to the hard-partying colonial administrators of French Morocco. Around teatime, theyd gather for posh dances set to live orchestras. The tea dance spread around the world, and today its a gay custom. Anyway, whats more American than a Tea Party? Boarding begins at 2:30 p.m. and the yacht will be on water from 3 to 6. Parking at the dock (near the SE Third Ave. Bridge, Fort Lauderdale) is free. Tickets cost $25 with reservations, $30 without. Call 954-649-1107, or visit www.gayteacruise.com.
