Uncommon Art of the Commonplace
Hyperrealism is a form of art that uses exacting, realistic detail to make a comment. In the case of sculpture by Duane Hanson, its used to create a nebulous narrative, a quiet context, and an everyman truth. Hansons bronze sculptures, painted and adorned with life-like precision, are unsettling glimpses into moments in the lives of everyday people. His work seems to reflect his empathy for his subjects, no matter how commonplace, and turns the unremarkable into something remarkable. There lurks a dignity in his captured mundane moments that leaves one contemplating the connection between art and life with a bit more reverence for the human experience. And the world needs a bit more of that these days, doesnt it?
