Don’t believe in the power of the rap battle? Check out the videos on grindtimenow.com, the self-proclaimed World’s Number One Rap Battle League, and you’ll find more footage of dudes tearing each other apart than the entire back catalogue of UFC fights. From Los Angeles to New York to Minnesota, Grind Time draws rappers with a penchant for one-on-one, acapella carnage and puts them to the test against each other. The goal? Verbal domination, baby. That, and a chance to get their fast-talking faces sprayed across YouTube, Worldstarhiphop.com, and, eventually, the World Street Battle Championship to be held in 2010.

This Saturday night, Grind Time is holing up inside O’Malley’s Sports Bar and Grill for Broward Beatdown, a marathon fire-spitting session that will separate the men from the B-Boys. Over 30 rappers will go head-to-head in anything goes bouts, including four matches between top ranking grinders Surgeon General, Wiseguy, Redd Simpkins, Knowledge Medina, Mosh Jelton, Dirty Dem, Jee Money, and BC. Some of these guys will be cutting their rookie teeth for the first time — others will be doing the cutting themselves.

Head to 1388 N. State Rd. 7 in Margate at 3 p.m. There’s no cover. For more info, visit grindtimenow.com.
