VideoGames as Art
Perhaps you thought you were wasting your time as a youth, spending hours upon hours trying to reach the next level on Super Mario Bros. Guess what? You were not. You were an active participant in one of modern society's most expressive artistic media, videogames. Beginning Wednesday and lasting until January 13 of next year, the Boca Raton Museum of Art embraces the art of videogames. It will be the first museum in the nation to host the Smithsonian American Art Museum's trailblazing exhibition, "The Art of Video Games." The exhibit explores the 40-year evolution of videogames as an artistic medium, focusing on their arresting graphics, creative storytelling, and player interactivity. The exhibit begins Wednesday at the Boca Raton Museum of Art at 501 Plaza Real in Boca Raton. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. the first Wednesday of every month. Admission for adults is $8.
