Village of a Million Corpses
The south tip of the USA has always been possessed: South Florida greed, South Florida debauchery, the mayhem. The Sunshine State can be dark, horrific, and haunting -- as will be seen at the War Memorial. The Village of Horrors has gotten inspiration from many dreadful places such as the 13th floor of the Grandeur Palms Hotel and Great Hall, a refuge of criminals that came to be known as the "Speakeasy From Hell," as well as uneasy tales such as when a traveling circus came to town and hanged a 740-pound tiger. The village will feature two haunted houses, three panic zones, wild freak sideshows, and a crafts and peddlers row.
Abandoned souls lurk around each corner from 7 p.m. to midnight at the War Memorial Auditorium (800 NE Eighth St., Fort Lauderdale). Tickets cost $10 to $35 (depending on if you want to enter the World of Wonders.) Terror unfolds October 13 to 15, 20 to 22, and 27 to 29. For tickets, call 800-745-3000, or visit ticketmaster.com. For more gruesome tales, visit villageofhorrors.com.
Oct. 14-15, 7 p.m.; Oct. 20-22, 7 p.m.; Oct. 27-29, 7 p.m., 2011
