War of Words
In a time when a xenophobic undercurrent compels people to complain about having to "press one for English," Native Words, Native Warrior tells the story of Native American soldiers whose native language was a great asset to the U.S. military during WWI and WWII, since sensitive communications between these soldiers, who came from over a dozen tribes, proved indecipherable to the enemy. For decades they went without recognition until the government declassified some of the programs in which these men worked. This traveling Smithsonian Institution exhibition honors their service.
