We Must Have Been Good to Deserve This
William Burroughs once called filmmaker, writer, and funny man John Waters “the pope of trash,” and the title just stuck. Using a crew of fascinating misfits as regulars in his films (together they are referred to as “the Dreamlanders”), the director of Pink Flamingos and Hairspray gave the world a singing asshole on the big screen and the most Divine drag queen of all. He taught us not to wear white after Labor Day and made us want to be one of the outsiders. On July 28, the cult icon brings his one-man show, This Filthy World, to the Parker Playhouse (707 NE Eighth St., Fort Lauderdale). There will be a Q&A session after the performance and a screening of his 1981 comedic film Polyester beforehand. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets cost $36.50 to $125. Call 954-462-0222, or visit parkerplayhouse.com. See our interview with Waters on Countygrind.
