Why contemplate the unanswerable questions in your life when you can hand over this duty to poker-faced comedian Steven Wright? Wright, known for his smart ponderances, stream-of-consciousness mutterings, and matter-of-fact observations, can give you gems like: “You can’t have everything. Where would you put it?” If that’s not enough, his album I Have a Pony was nominated for a Grammy, and he ranks among Comedy Central’s top 25 greatest standup comedians of all time. This wiry-haired funnyman is a regular guest on Letterman’s, Leno’s, O’Brien’s, Kimmel’s, and Ferguson’s shows too, and he appeared in Desperately Seeking Susan, So I Married an Axe Murderer, and Natural Born Killers, among others. And you’d recognize his voice in a nanosecond if you heard him as that monotone DJ K-Billy from Reservoir Dogs. Maybe you didn’t see Wright starring in the Academy Award-winning short film The Appointments of Dennis Jennings, which he also cowrote, and perhaps you didn’t know he’s also a painter and musician, but we digress. If you think you could love a guy who wants to be a bird — not so he can fly but so he can shit white — see Wright’s 8 p.m. show at Parker Playhouse (707 NE Eighth St., Fort Lauderdale.) Tickets cost $27.50 and $37.50. Call 954-462-0222, or visit parkerplayhouse.com.
