Does size really matter? The Palm Beach County Boat Show at the South Florida Fairgrounds Expo Center (9067 Southern Blvd., West Palm Beach) won't flaunt the mega-yachts its downtown counterpart does, but some 600 vessels of up to 45 feet are likely to fulfill wet dreams nonetheless. The event, showcasing dinghies to Donzis, also features crab races, angling seminars, and demos like Labrador dummy duck retrievals and divers submerging tankless in a 1,500-gallon tub. Tackle, ship models, jewelry, and artwork will be displayed; on-site financiers can help get your motor running. The show runs from Thursday, June 17, to Sunday, June 20. Famous photo comes to Boca

Everyone knows the image. We're kind of sick of the image. But that doesn't stop it from mesmerizing us. In 1984, National Geographic's Steve McCurry photographed a shy Afghan refugee without even getting her name, realizing only later how gripping her portrait would be. In 2002, McCurry found the "Afghan Girl" in Pakistan and informed Sharbat Gula that she's famous the world over. Donations poured in, enabling Gula to travel to Mecca for the Hajj (her lifelong dream). McCurry's images -- on display at the Boca Raton Museum of Art (Mizner Park, 501 Plaza Real, Boca Raton) through August 29 -- prove that the camera is mightier than the sword, the bunker buster, or any stupid foreign policy. How can you say no to Clare, the lovely Irish bartender who works at Maguire's Hill 16 (535 N. Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale)? Trick question! You can't, because she uses her mesmerizing accent when she asks, "Will youse come to me fundraiser, playse?" The adventurous lass has brought her beer-dispensing talents across the pond to work at her uncle's bar. But she misses her mum, who's back in Newry, Northern Ireland, suffering from Alzheimer's disease. In Mom's honor, Clare has put together a fundraiser to benefit Alzheimer's research. Clare says that there will be "a pub quiz" (that's Irish for "trivia game") and prizes and that the house band, Celt, will play music to guzzle Guinness by.
