The new musical The 12 at the Broward Center of the Performing Arts will tell the story of Jesus’ roadies through the music of the devil: Hellelujah! After their leader is bogusly slain, they’ll create more buzz than a backstage bag of coke. Each of the 12 apostles will spread the mighty word through various rock styles — from blessed Bowie-esque to faithful, Floydian fashion. Featuring former Anthrax guitarist Dan Spitz, the live band will blast the audience into rock ’n’ roll Heaven with 18 original songs. Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Robert Schenkkan teamed up with composer and lyricist Neil Berg (who’s other work includes the forthcoming Grumpy Old Men: The Musical) to create this odd and godly production. The show starts at 8 p.m. at the Broward Center of Performing Arts’ Au-Rene Theater (201 SW Fifth Avenue Fort Lauderdale). Look forward to that rapturous encore. Tickets cost $25 to $55.
