Whats in a Name?
Listening to early recordings of No Use For a Name, youd think it was a totally different band from the one thats currently (reluctantly?) going by that moniker. Lineup changes aside, NUFN has come a long way since its more metal-inspired days in the late ´80s. While many of the bands peers (cough, Pennywise, cough) have been rewriting the same song for 15 years, NUFN frontman and melody-maker Tony Sly has never sold himself short as a songwriter. The bands latest album, 2005s Keep Them Confused, isnt the non-stop, galloping skate-punk the band built its (unnecessary?) name on but a well-honed mix of upbeat rockers and softer, introspective tunes. Its enough to please Mohicans and bedheads alike. NUFN performs Wednesday at Culture Room (3045 N. Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale). The show starts at 7 p.m. with openers I Am the Avalanche, the Suicide Machines, and Versus the World. Tickets cost $14.99. Call 954-564-1074, or visit www.cultureroom.net.
