Where Can a Lampshade find a Party?
Without costumes, Halloween would just be a bunch of people running around, talking about ghosts and demanding candy. (Lame.) Thankfully we do masquerade as someone else, and who we pick says a lot about what parties we should go to.
Latex Devil, Feathery Angel
Saturdays Halloween party at Duck Soup (3809 Powerline Rd., Oakland Park) is good for your fetish. Lock that pesky angel up in the dancing cage while you, good devil, get your rocks off with live music from four bands; spooked out piñatas, costume contests, and $20 all you can drink. This party has a $5 cover. Call 954-561-9134.
Zebra, Gorilla, and Unicorn
Sometimes as adults we forget that kids celebrate Halloween best so why dont you follow suit and join them at the Palm Beach Zoo (1301 Summit Blvd., West Palm Beach)? All weekend long there will be trick-or-treating (Hey, Mr. Monkey you holdin?), costume contests, and a haunted house. Tickets cost $8.95 to $12.95. Call 561-547-9453, or visit www.palmbeachzoo.org.
Teen Age Mutant Ninja Turtle (Non-Ironic)
Sugar Sand Park is the place to go for little dudes (ages up to 12). This haunted ghost town ropes all the little partners in with animatronic skeletons, ghost tours, photo sessions, and other fun activities like a magic show. Call 561-347-3900 for a schedule of events and ticket prices they vary based on activity.
Nothin says Halloween like men in spandex and figure-four leg locks. Tonight is the one-year anniversary of DP1 (Division Pro One) Wrestling in Davie, and since these guys are always in costume, its the perfect place to hunker down and get your fix of bloodsports. (There are ten scheduled grudgematches so far.) Free candy for the kids and tickets range $5 to $12. The punishment goes down at the Davie PAL Gymnasium (4300 SW 57 Ter., Davie), and begins at 7:30 p.m. Call 954-554-7688 or log onto www.d1pw.com.
That Costume Youve Been Making since Last Year or, a Sexy Cop
MoonFest brings together people from every background, musical genre, and costume category for one giant party. The yearly event takes over Clematis and showcases bands in West Palms clubs Respectable Street and The Lounge, as well as headliners on the main street stage (the Postmarks are playing this year; if you missed ´em at Apples in Stereo, catch ´em at MoonFest), and anyone who thinks that his or her costume makes the grade can compete in the 1,000 cash prize costume contest. This years fest will also have a haunted house, street performers, rides, and circus acts. The best part? Its free, little ghoul. (Currently scheduled bands: The Remnants, The Freakin Hott, Perfect Citizen, AKA, The Creepy Ts, Marqui Adora, Zombies! Organize!!, Band Marino, the Postmarks, and Jacob Groten Band.) Visit www.moonfest.org.
