Marina Font — a woman, an immigrant, and an artist — believes that women are “the keepers of culture, bearing tradition on their shoulders.” The Girls’ Club (117 NE Second St., Fort Lauderdale) is committed to this mission as well, providing creative space for female artists to not only create but to pass on those skills to other women and girls, in effect, bear culture ever forward. Font will join the Girls’ Club on Friday and Saturday to kick off its Artist in Action series, now in its third year. The Artist’s Talk, which takes place Friday at 7 p.m., is free and open to the public. New this year are artist workshops, where attendees can make a piece of art right on-site. For this first workshop, participants will create a mixed-media photo panel under Font’s tutelage and should email a five-by-seven-inch image of at least 200-pixel resolution to [email protected] prior to the class, which takes place Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. Due to the one-on-one nature of this session, attendance is limited and registration is $30.
