In honor of the start of the academic season, it's time for a little New Times pop quiz. Let's take a moment to ponder a question posed by one of the great street philosophers of our time: "What if hip-hop was never born, yo?" Pencils down. Time's up. Still not seeing the dystopian scenario laid out before you? Fine, we'll let Grandmaster Flash school you from here: "No DJs, no grab, no breakers, no MC... No b-boys, no b-girls, no graffiti, no nothing."
Luckily, you'll get to bear witness to the fruits of hip-hop's conception when the WeMerge South Florida Graffiti Expo takes over Kevro's Art Bar on Saturday. Local graff artists Dekal, Legend187, Create, Kuote (Sly Ones), TMS (AIM Crew), and Etaks One will throw up work on the spot for your visual pleasure while MCs Protoman, Jabr Jaw & Dee Dubs, and Speak Volumes take their lyrical graffiti to stage. There'll be a full liquor bar, and even though it's not a school night, there's a 9 p.m. curfew if you're not at least 21. A $5 donation is requested at the door. Aerosol caps come off at 6 p.m. at Kevro's Art Bar (166 SE Ave., Delray Beach). Call 561-274-0007.
Sat., Aug. 28, 6 p.m., 2010
