During his heyday in the late '80s and mid '90s, nobody embodied the sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll lifestyle more than Dave Navarro. The former Jane's Addiction and Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist rocked harder than most musicians onstage and partied even harder behind closed doors. Within the rock 'n' roll world, he's perceived as a badass who can riff with the best of them. Navarro is a good song composer (stoned or sober), but he's at his best under bright lights, thrashing out like it's still 1989. In the regular world, however (if one exists for rockers), he's struggled with a lot of demons, from the murder of his mother at a young age to drug addictions that nearly ruined him while he was still a Chili Pepper. But this is a new millennium, and the now 40-year-old Navarro has slowed down a bit (his slow stages are like life in the fast lane for most of us). Lately, he's been touring with famed New York hip-hop/house guru DJ Skribble, and the two are hitting the club circuit sort of the way Tommy Lee and DJ Aero have been combining house and rock music while turning a profit. They must be onto something, because folks love the sound, and while it's hard to picture Navarro in a DJ booth, musicians have to evolve, right? Don't worry. Navarro still brings all of his guitars to his gigs, so you'll get to see him rock.
