Celebrities are just like you and me -- they put their pants on one leg at a time. It's just that once their pants are on, they make gold records, catch touchdown passes, and emit immeasurable cool. That's why, when a chance to rub elbows with the stars comes around, it's hard not to jump at the opportunity. This Friday at the DSI TV Celebrity Launch Party, there will be plenty of elbows ready for rubbing.
The party is hosted by Travis Taylor of the Baltimore Ravens, and special invited guests include football players Mike McKenzie of the New Orleans Saints and Alvin McKinnley of the Cleveland Browns, as well as more NFL -- and some MLB -- stars. Other expected attendees include rapper Pitbull and Money Mark and Co. of Slip and Slide Records. There will also be special performances by McKenzie, as well as by 34 Ways Entertainment's Sons of Poverty and Pluz Wun (a.k.a. "The Voice of the City"). A fashion show is on tap, too.

While the rest of Broward County is painted green for St. Patrick's Day, that color has a different meaning in clubland -- military green. Two events taking place Friday in western Broward are all about war... well, at least that's the schtick on the fliers. What's really goin' down is a night of big beats and good eats. First, there's the Rumors of War Sound Clash at Hollywood Hall (5800 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood) in which Jamaica's Black Kat and Japan's Mighty Crown battle for the hip-hop hemisphere. But if you want a little grub with your dub, check out the Military Bash at the Banana Boat (6242 W. Oakland Park Blvd., Sunrise). In addition to a ration of danceable sounds, there's plenty of jerk chicken, pork, and roast fish available all night. Could Gen X -- that demographic of youngbloods known for complacency and grungy flannel -- really lead the fashion world down a sleek, new runway? The renegade crew of Gen Art -- a nonprofit organization that nurtures young artistic talent -- has forced the uppity fashion world to bend over, cringe, and notice up-and-coming designers, artists, and general badasses. Gen Art penetrates Miami's synthetic aesthetic when it brings the annual "Fresh Faces in Fashion" show to the Doubletree Surfcomber Hotel (1717 Collins Ave., Miami Beach) on Friday.
