While some DJs will only play parties with VIP lists and bottle service, Christopher Lawrence has a more eclectic outlook. He's gotten behind the decks and hocked his dark brand of trance at Ahhnald's Terminator 3 party, Las Vegas' annual Pimp 'n' Ho Ball, the yearly indie-rock pilgrimage known as Coachella, and huge festivals in the Netherlands, Turkey, Brazil, and Ibiza. Maybe that's why he was named DJ Magazine's "All Around International Jet Setting Superstar." Though trance is often treated like Ebola in electronic-music circles, Lawrence has transcended the backlash with his solid sets. He arrives in South Florida to support his upcoming album, All or Nothing, which veers into the progressive house style, set to dark, hypnotic beats and spiraling synths. Check him out at 10 p.m. Saturday, May 29, at Pure (66 SW Fifth St., Miami) at the Magical Maydaze event, which also features the last show of electro-oddities Spacemen. Tickets cost $25.
