The Nationwide Golf Tour comes to the Miccosukee Golf and Country Club (6401 Kendale Lakes Dr., Miami) October 18 to 26 for the Miccosukee Championship. The tournament, in its first year, will be open to 156 players competing on a 7,200-yard course, with the winner receiving $90,000.
The Nationwide Golf Tour is akin to a minor league for the PGA, with the best and brightest of the field each year moving up to play with Tiger, Ernie, and the rest of the big boys. The Miccosukee will be the 29th of 30 tournaments this year; the last one is the Nationwide Tour Championship in Alabama.
Things get kicked off Saturday night with a concert. Other events include a trick shot artist show on Tuesday, and Wednesday's pro am. Tournament play starts with Thursday's first round. Tickets for the event are $15 per day, with a weeklong pass available for $30. Call 305-477-4653. -- Russ Evans

Halloween Spooky Run
In the mood for some autumn aerobics? The seventh-annual "Phantom 4 Run and Fitness Walk" is here, just in time for Halloween. The races will be held at Dyer Park (7301 Haverhill Rd., West Palm Beach) on Saturday, October 18, beginning at 8 a.m. The day's activities include a four-mile run and four-mile walk that are open to anyone. Kids 15 and younger may enter a mile run, which starts at 9 a.m. There will also be a costume contest for those creative souls. Registration costs $20 for adults and $15 for kids age 15 and younger. Patriotic Fins
After almost a month away from Pro Player Stadium (2269 Dan Marino Blvd., Miami), the Miami Dolphins return at 1 p.m. Sunday to take on the New England Patriots. Following a great win against the Buffalo Bills, the Dolphins took a bye week before arriving in East Rutherford to slap the New York Giants 23-10. The Fins then began the long journey home, stopping last week in Jacksonville, where they handily beat the Jaguars, 24-10. Now, with four wins in a row behind them, the Dolphins can assert their dominance of the AFC East with a win against the Pats. Meanwhile, the Patriots need this victory to maintain their status as a viable postseason team. This matchup should be hard-fought because both teams want that "W" in a real bad way.
