Alvin Youngblood Hart leads a deceptively simple life. In the Central Mississippi town the acclaimed guitarist calls home, Hart enjoys family, fishing, and horseback riding. But beyond his rather prosaic life, he makes beautiful music. Refusing to be pigeonholed into a blues-only niche, this dreadlocked, well-traveled cross between Howlin' Wolf and Link Wray can kick out the jams. Be it his intricate repertoire as a soloist bluesman, his arsenal of American roots music, or the occasional foray into jazz territory, Hart retains easy control of the song's form. Expect a balanced display of material ranging from '96's Big Mama's Door to the more recent Motivational Speaker. An even bigger treat from this musician's musician is when he's backed by the Muscle Theory band; and there isn't a better place to showcase this Grammy-nominated talent than the beautiful Bamboo Room.

Alvin Youngblood Hart and Muscle Theory perform at 9:30 p.m. Friday, August 19, at the Bamboo Room, 25 S. "J" St., Lake Worth. Tickets cost $15. Call 561-585-BLUE.
