Henry's China House (745 SE 17th St., Fort Lauderdale, 954-763-3333) claims to be "Fort Lauderdale's first Chinese restaurant." Now, I'm not about to argue -- the place opened in the '50s and still consistently serves some downright savory Cantonese cuisine. There's never a doubt the fare is homemade; if you dine during the slow hours, you can watch the staff roll, stuff, and pinch the won tons. Then you can order them (the won tons, not the staff) freshly boiled in the mixed egg drop-won ton soup or steamed as an appetizer. Thanks to the crisp vegetables that garnish everything from the house-special sirloin to the chow fun (broad noodles), Henry just might want to change the wording of his slogan from "first" to "freshest."
