If the many fine pieces of artwork within the Norton Museum of Art came to life for one evening a la Ben Stiller’s madcap Night at the Museum films, the result would probably not be a wild night of revelry — rather, you’d be in for a somewhat contemplative evening in the company of Paul Rubens’ incarnation of Saint John the Evangelist and Roman Vishniac’s pre-holocaust Jewish shtetl-dwellers. But don’t get the wrong idea: the Norton knows how to put the “art” in party. For proof, check out it’s latest event series, Art After Dark, going down on the second Thursday of each month. The program will combine D.I.Y. art, film, live music, and booze into one night of merriment in the museum’s hallowed halls. Tonight, local singer/songwriter John Ralston will serenade museum-goers in the atrium - hopefully with tunes of his upcoming album, Wild and Free, which he recently finished recording in the Crescent City. You can also take part in a tour of the Norton’s extensive galleries, listen in on a conversation on contemporary art with curator Cheryl Brutvan, and stick around for a showing of Fantasia, an animated classic that coincides with the museum’s latest exhibit, “Disney: The Music Behind the Magic.”
