The Lake Worth Playhouse will be holding open auditions Monday and Tuesday for their upcoming thriller, Woman in Black, a stage adaptation of the classic Susan Hill horror novel. The story has all the hallmarks of great scare bait: a middle-aged attorney, Arthur Kipps, moves to a quiet, seaside town in eastern England, where he discovers a mysterious apparition haunting in town. A pale ghost of a woman dressed in black appears throughout the town, acting as a harbinger of deaths to follow. Before his time in town is finished, Arthur uncovers the secret past that led to the spirit's vengeance.

The play's been running at the Fortune Theatre in London since 1989, and it's said that, since then, a woman in black has been spotted by the cast silently looking on. Will the Lake Worth Playhouse's production share the same fate? Show up to the open call and cold read for the parts of Arthur Kipps, young Kipps, and the Woman in Black herself, and maybe you'll find out. Call 561-586-6169 (ext. 204) for more information.
Mon., June 15, 7 p.m.; Tue., June 16, 7 p.m., 2009
