ArtServe’s fourth annual Red Eye art show reception premiers Friday at 6 p.m., unleashing an optic blast of local, multimedia art on Fort Lauderdale. The fest, which meshes street art with a gallery setting, has as many facets as a kaleidoscope: there’ll be low brow goods from the Independent Working Artists Network, including pieces from the likes of Cheryl Jarosz, Lauck Ward, Matty Goldstien, and Lisa Parrot. The gallery will also feature three-dimensional installations by Torch, live visual performances by VJ Dark Intersection, open-mic hosted by Renda Writer, and a fashion show choreographed to the music of local acts Astari Night, Dooms De Pop, Confused as Ever, and Viva le Vox. Cans to Canvases – ArtServe’s program to get talented graffiti artists off the streets and into galleries where they can sell their work for profit – will also be showcasing. And the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival will host a short film contest, with the winner’s film earning a spot in the 2009 festival. Phew! Bring your eye drops to 1350 E. Sunrise Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale. Admission is free, and the gallery elements of the show will stay on display until August 7. Call 954-462-8190, or visit artserve.org.
