Fun and sun draw many national events to Miami but none quite like Aqua Girl. No, not the DC Comics superheroine — Aqua Girl is the country’s largest non-profit lesbian event. This year is the 10th annual Aqua Girl Weekend, and features a litany of women-only events: dance parties, comedy shows, live music, fashion shows, and poolside movies. On Wednesday, head over to the Surfcomber Resort (1717 Collins Ave., Miami Beach) for a dive-in movie night by the pool. On Thursday, dance it up at Score (727 Lincoln Rd., Miami Beach) where you can tell which gal is taken and which is single by the color of her glow necklace. On Sunday, gay gentlemen friends are invited to a co-ed party where go-go boys and girls gyrate while drag queens sashay. In your face, Anita Bryant! For those of the Sapphic set, don’t miss out on the love fest of the year. All proceeds benefit the Aqua Foundation for Women, which awards grants and scholarships to women active in the GLBT community. Weekend passes start at $109, or you can pay for events individually.
