Science is under attack. From wide-release films like What the Bleep Do We Know!? to a public force-feeding of Intelligent Design prattle, popular culture and religious groups ache to chip away at its fundamental principles. What science needs now more than ever is a cheerleader, an academic so intricately familiar with the realm of physics that he could squash all modern pseudoscientific hypotheses with only one hour, a Sharpie, and, likely, a large tablet of paper. Precisely that is what will happen today, when the local organization Community of Center for Inquiry of Fort Lauderdale presents a lecture with Victor Stenger, professor of physics and author of the New York Times National Bestseller God: The Failed Hypothesis.

His book, the latest in a multi-decade span of published works, has been praised by critics, scientists, and science journalists alike, because Stenger has a unique gift among physicists: he can speak on a level understood by most without sacrificing facts and necessary data. Join other local skeptics, humanists, atheists, book lovers, and just ordinary open-minded people in welcoming Stenger to the Jim Ward Community Center (301 NW 46th Ave., Plantation) tonight at 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
