In 1981, Representative John Wilson Jenrette, Jr. (D-SC) fucked his wife behind a pillar on the steps of the Capitol Building. Later in his career, Jenrette was indicted for taking bribes. Today, he runs a firm for public relations – which is appropriate enough, seeing as how public relations had once again made him firm. His wife, meanwhile, went on to disrobe for Playboy, and in 1984, she starred in the film Zombie Island Massacre. It’s available on Amazon.com.

In addition to expanding the career opportunities of its principles, Jenrette’s first scandal inspired the formation of a comedy troupe in Washington D.C., called “Capitol Steps.” The troupe is made up of former Congressional staffers. Since the Reagan years, they’ve satirized American politics for theatergoers nationwide. Today, “Capitol Steps” hits up the Broward Center for Performing Arts (201 SW Fifth Avenue) in promotion of their new CD, “Springtime for Liberals.” Expect musical numbers such as “Ain’t No Surplus,” “I’m So Indicted,” and “Tap 3 Times,” a charming ode to the sex scandal that stalled the career of Larry Craig. Tickets cost $25-$35. Call 954-462-0222, or visit www.browardcenter.org.
