In the rough-and-tumble world of the American Basketball League, the Florida Pit Bulls are busy tearing the throats out of the competition. They shredded the Indiana Alley Cats’ undefeated streak without a scratch and took the fire out of the San Jose Sky Rockets recently. Now on game 27, the Pit Bulls are tackling the Toledo Ice. So far an easy way to judge the winner has been to pit the teams’ mascots against one another. A pit bull’s a sure bet against an alley cat, and taking the Buzz out of Orange County proved to be easy enough. But what happens when the dogs try attacking the Ice? With former NBA-superstar Tim Hardaway at the helm and Terence Shelman (a recent ABA East Player of the Week) on forward, the Pit Bulls can probably figure it out. Now that the NBA has pulled the reigns in on its flashy, hip-hop-lovin’ players, the ABA’s here to put the hip back into the hop that is b-ball. The bounce begins at 7 p.m. at the BankAtlantic Center (1 Panther Pkwy., Sunrise). Tickets cost $15 to $35. Call 954-835-8630, or visit www.floridapitbulls.com.
